About

english as a second language

The Atlas Digibus ESL Programme suppports Grade 4 learners facing the challenging transition from learning in their mother tongue to learning in English. Many children in South African schools, begin school learning to read in their home language, only to switch to English when they reach Grade 4 —a foreign language for many. The Digibus addresses this gap by providing targeted support through Reading Eggs, a phonics-based program that builds essential English language skills.

In a safe, supportive environment, students tackle phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary, gaining confidence as they progress. Success in the Digibus program has led to improvements not only in language proficiency but also in other subjects like Maths, where language barriers previously held them back. This programme empowers learners to approach English reading with understanding and confidence, creating a pathway for academic growth across the curriculum.
